Crispy Tofu and Baby Bok Choy with Oyster Sauce

Author:Vanjo Merano Updated: July 29, 2024

Crispy Tofu and Baby Bok Choy with Oyster Sauce is a simple yet healthy and refreshing dish you can cook at home. This is a dish for those who are looking to lessen their meat intake, but still want to enjoy delicious meals. The crispy, crunchy tofu soaks up the umami flavor of your oyster sauce. And coupled with your garlic, onion, bok choy, and beef broth, it makes for the perfect bite with warm rice!

Cooking crispy tofu may seem daunting at first, but don’t worry! The trick is making sure that you have the right type of tofu on hand. This crispy tofu recipe calls for extra firm tofu, which is the type of tofu that contains the least amount of moisture. Extra firm tofu might have a rubbery texture, or come out firm and crunchy, depending on how you cook it. Tofu in itself is a very adaptable ingredient, and its variety of textures make its cooking possibilities endless.

Bok Choy, meanwhile, is a type of Chinese cabbage –– a leafy green that’s not only delicious but incredibly healthy! We often see bok choy in stir fries and soups in Asian cuisine. Bok Choy contains high amounts of selenium, which is a mineral your body needs to help boost immunity and prevent cancerous diseases. Brain health and thyroid health are easily improved by consuming this vegetable.

Crispy Tofu and Baby Bok Choy with Oyster Sauce is a great, healthy meal to have for lunch or dinner. I also suggest making sweet and sour tofu. This dish is also easy to make and goes well with noodles or fried rice.

How to Cook Crispy Tofu and Baby Bok Choy with Oyster Sauce

Making crispy tofu and baby bok choy with oyster sauce is a lot easier than you think. The process takes very little cooking time, and you need little to no cooking experience to make this yummy dish. And although simple, its end result sure is worth it!

Start your crispy tofu preparations by cutting your 8 ounces of extra firm tofu into cubes. Chop your baby bok choy, onion, and garlic into small pieces as well.

Heat 1 ½ cups of cooking oil in your saucepan. Drop your tofu in and deep fry it until it becomes crispy and golden brown in color. Once you’ve reached the desired shade, set it aside and cook the rest of your ingredients.

Now, add in 3 tablespoons of oil in a pan and saute your 1 clove of garlic and 1 piece of onion. Let your garlic brown and onions soften before adding in the chopped bok choy. Continue to sauté for about 30 seconds. Make sure not to overcook your bok choy, either!

Pour in half a cup of beef broth and let it boil. If you are trying to reduce meat intake altogether, you can vegetable broth instead. Then, add in the fried tofu you set aside earlier. Stir in all your ingredients together, letting it cook for one minute. Put in 3 tablespoons of oyster sauce and incorporate all your ingredients well. Let your crispy tofu dish cook for about 30 seconds. By now, the tofu is soaking up all the delicious flavor of your oyster sauce, coupled with your fresh bok choy and garlic and onion.

Season your crispy tofu dish with ground black pepper to taste. Once you’ve accomplished this step, your meal is finally ready! Transfer it to a serving bowl or plate and serve! Share it with your loved ones over warm rice and enjoy it!
